Pilates teacher training near Bristol
The Pilates Teacher Training courses are held at The Physiotherapy and Pilates Rehabilitation Centre in Clevedon just south of Bristol which offers Pilates and Physiotherapy, particularly specialising in neurological conditions.
The courses are run by Karen Pearce: Pilates Instructor and Teacher Trainer and Sarah Sessa: MSc, MCSP: specialist neurological physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor.
Together they co-own the Physio and Pilates Rehab Centre and Karen has also been running The Pilates studio in Taunton Somerset for 20 years. They co-authored “Pilates and Parkinson’s”, published in 2016.
Sarah and Karen both qualified as Pilates instructors under the world-renowned Alan Herdman and developed the Fully Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Course with him . They now also offer equipment only courses and courses for Physiotherapists.
As the courses on offer are run at a busy Pilates and Physio centre the trainees are offered the chance to get hands on experience with clients as part of the training and particular attention is given to rehabilitation. All trainees are encouraged to use both the Clevedon and Taunton studio whilst training (where applicable) for self practise, observation and to gain experience in teaching.

I undertook this course with minimal Pilates matwork experience and absolutely no knowledge of anatomy or pathologies and conditions. This course delivers a level of knowledge through lectures and practical sessions, which will give you the confidence to take your training in any direction - whether it be teaching matwork, equipment fitness Pilates, rehabilitation or a mix of them all! Since qualifying in June 2017, I have been teaching both matwork and equipment and have now decided to focus on working primarily with clients with neurological conditions. Sarah and Karen continue to support you after you qualify and provide continuous personal development by way of workshops. Being affiliated to Alan Herdman, meeting him and picking up tips, is the icing on the cake! Fabulous course! One big family!
I would thoroughly recommend the teacher training course at PPRC. Sarah and Karen are both very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, and the course is very well balanced, with plenty of time for practical learning in the studio, underpinned by in-depth lectures from qualified Physiotherapists. Trainees are also required to spend time observing and assisting in public studio sessions, meaning you get the opportunity to put your learning into practice.
Karen and Sarah’s Pilates Teacher Training Course was possibly the best training course I have ever attended. Having spent all of my professional life involved in Health and Fitness, I have completed many training courses in the US and UK, from state lifeguard to PhD, and Karen and Sarah’s course is one of the two absolute best courses that I have ever taken. Sarah’s Anatomy and Conditions lectures and booklets were informative, comprehensive, and will be an extremely valuable resource for years to come. Karen’s expertise and teaching style was absolutely fantastic! She is so willing to share her wealth of knowledge, often including her own, or Alan’s, newest exercises or changes to old ones; she never tires of repeating cues for exercises, and is so willing to give extra time. Observing and then assisting at both the Clevedon studio and the Taunton studio is a must. The clients at the two studios differ, and the experience gained from the time spent at each studio is invaluable. Completing Karen and Sarah’s course, armed with all of the booklets and experience gained during the course, with a final assessment by Alan Herdman, makes their course the absolute best. Thank you, Karen and Sarah.
I travelled from the United States to attend this course. I have been teaching Pilates for 20 years and this course is, by far, one of the best I have ever taken. The course materials were excellent, and the instructors, led by Sara Sessa a certified physio, Karen Pearce, a certified Pilates trainer and studio owner are outstanding and endlessly patient. The program is affiliated with Alan Herdman, a legend in international Pilates. This class is apprenticeship based so you are observing the principles in action immediately and then working with clients as soon as you are ready. The hands on learning experience you gain from is absolutely invaluable. I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed the class, working with Sara and Karen , my classmates, the lovely people I got to work with in the Studio and how much I learned in my time there.
The PPTC was the most valuable investment I’ve made in years. Worried about investing in a flighty weekend course, it was refreshing to find a Pilates Teacher Training Course that demanded a foundation in anatomy and a complete understanding of the principles and fundamentals of Pilates. In addition it gives you the Active IQ Level III qualification, which allows you to benefit from an international approved standard. The PPTC not only covered an intense study course, but also offered a full practical training course in all exercises extended through Pilates equipment and mat work. It is designed to help you understand the needs, conditions and uses of Pilates exercises when facing all types of clients and situations. In addition, the course provided on site work placement throughout the training, giving us students the possibility to develop a level of confidence in our knowledge, that is needed when progressing to working by oneself. Both Sarah Sessa and Karen Pearce are hugely experienced professionals, who use their immense knowledge to train and progress their students as much as possible. To complete the course and to finally be assessed and passed by the distinguished “Alan Herdman”, was the highlight of my year. I highly recommend the course, which not only provides a great depth of knowledge through training, but which on graduating, allows you to become associated with a seminal group of professionals within this industry.
